Problems in the Church of Scotland

25 May, 2009

Now is a time to be in prayer for the Church of Scotland. Saturday night, the annual General Assembly voted to uphold the call of a minister who is living in an openly homosexual relationship. This is all going on right here in the presbytery of Aberdeen, in our backyard, and our church and other local churches were involved in bringing the complaint, which unfortunately was defeated. You can read the complaint, and the answer of the presbytery which was upheld, here.

This afternoon, (4 pm London/Edinburgh time), they are hearing an overture from another presbytery which asks the Church of Scotland to assent to the following:

That this Church shall not accept for training, ordain, admit, re-admit, induct or introduce to any ministry of the Church anyone involved in a sexual relationship outside of faithful marriage between a man and a woman.

The overture, and the debate, may be watched via live video and audio streams, by going here.
